KDE is building a new Linux terminal that’s up to 35× faster than its current one in benchmarks. It’s called Kwi. It takes the terminal engine from Ghostty and uses your GPU to render what’s on screen. In one test, Kwi drew DOOM’s fire animation at 870 FPS. Konsole, KDE’s current terminal, managed 23 FPS on the same machine. Kwi’s faster rendering can make apps with constant updates, like live dashboards, feel smoother. It's still experimental, but it already supports Kitty’s image protocol, fractional scaling on Wayland, and Plasma’s system colors. Source: https://blogs.kde.org/2026/11/0
