Someone found a rather embarrassing problem with traditional RAG. Sometimes the answer exists on the webpage, but the retrieval pipeline loses it before the LLM gets to read it. The culprit is HTML-to-text conversion. A table with carefully aligned rows and columns can become a flat sequence of words. Infoboxes can dominate search results because they contain many of the same keywords as the question. The actual answer gets buried or disappears.
